Cruise that took place in April '09, the Homecoming
Game that took place on September 18th (with the
"Gathering" at the Moose Lodge following the game), and the
Dinner that occurred on September 19th.
We expanded this site to include
information about our past reunions, and to tell you about future plans.
When you look through this website, if you see a name missing or a name that needs to be brought up to

person is or where the place is or what the date may be that is

us. Our failing, feeble minds just cannot come up with some of the

Payment is due later this month (October). Anyone can still cruise
with the group, as long as they have a cabin available, up to three
days before we sail.
The cruise will be on the Grand Princess, leaving
San Francisco on January 17th, 2019, and will cruise
Puerto Vallarta, Manzanillo, Mazatlán, Cabo
and returning to San Francisco on January 27th.

learned this week that an old friend of ours,
Coach Jack Avina,
passed away at the age of 89 in Lafayette, California
Avina was one of my PE teachers, and Shirley had him as her
He was often referred to as "Laps, Avina", as that was his
for someone that was out of line, or late to class.

Afrer his time at GUHS, he moved into college basketball
coaching, and was the basketball coach at
University of Portland from 1970 to 1987.
After that he coached in Turkey and Brazil and gave clinics
"To that generation of
guys, Dad changed their lives," says Joel Avina, who played
for his father and coached with him for eight years on The
Bluff. "He pushed them to be what they could be. The end
result is, we got a lot of college graduates who have kids
who became college graduates.
"Dad was the first
college graduate in his family. Every one of his children
graduated from college. He wanted the same for his players.
When we recruited, that's what we talked to (the prospects)
about. 'You can get an education and change your family's
trajectory.' He was right. He did, and they did."
Our thoughts and
prayers go out to
all of our classmates that are faciing tough times and personal losses.
Hopefully they will let others know how they can help them
through these tough times.
